SmartPOS Errors

I can no longer enter a barcode manually and press ENTER within SmartPOS after I have upgrade to 4.6.1.1 and above (Keyboard Wedge Threshold)

Overview

Problem:
  • Within Bepoz version 4.6.1.1 and above, a new parameter has been implemented under Keyboard Device Setting within Venue Stores and Tills, to have a keyboard Input Threshold of 30-200ms, this was included to cater for scenarios where customers used both keyboard and scanner to input data into various input forms within SmartPOS, like Text Condiment, Account Numbers and Vouchers etc. In the past, some of these forms did not detect the scanner input. The threshold parameter now allows SmartPOS to detect what is Keyboard input and what is Scanner input and allows these forms to be populated.

  • In the past, a workflow could be used where the customer might type a barcode and then press <enter> and this would sell the item within SmartPOS, this workflow still works but due to the threshold requirement, the typing of the barcode and pressing <enter> has to be done very fast at best under 200ms. In most cases, this will appear like this workflow no longer works as the user will not see the item being sold at SmartPOS.

Solution:

  • To cater for this workflow, you can enable Keyboard Shortcuts (Keyboard Functions) for SmartPOS, these functions can be assigned to hotkeys like F1, F2 etc, this can be configured via Backoffice -> Till Function Maps -> Keyboard Functions.

  • An example of a Keyboard Shortcut would be to use F1 with the PLU Sales  Function Type and List by Barcode

  • Within SmartPOS the F1 key can be pressed on the Keyboard within most workflows and the operator can type in the Barcode at leisure. The benefit of this workflow as well is that the operator can also see the digits being typed.
