About

  • SmartKDS is the Bepoz Kitchen Display System (KDS) that helps to create increased operational efficiency and customer satisfaction through digital displays in service environments
  • Typically, KDS systems are used in a kitchen environment and offer a digital docket for chefs to work from instead of the traditional paper docket
  • It is designed to offer a visual / audio notification once an individual item or order is prepared and ready to be served
  • There are also built in warning stages that can be configured on setup to assist with cooking and wait times
  • N.B. - From 4.7.x.x version, SmartKDS is no longer part of Bepoz and needs to be installed separately. It still uses some functionality from Bepoz, such as Printer Formats & Printer Channels

Prerequisites

  • Minimum of Bepoz v4.7.2.7 + is required

Key Features

  • SmartKDS displays the orders received from SmartPOS and gives the operators the ability to work on the received order and close the order once it has been completed
  • The operator has the ability to download and update the SmartKDS version from Bepoz update program
  • SmartKDS is now a standalone product and can be upgraded independently from Bepoz 
  • SmartKDS utilises its own SQL database while running on the installed SQL instance 
  • The operator can set an individual item or the whole order to the following  statuses from within the SmartKDS Client
    • Preparing - Starts a timer for cooking times
    • Bumped - The item / order has been prepared and has left the preparation area
    • Cancelled - The item / order has been removed from the KDS station as it is no longer needed
  • Orders can be displayed on different KDS Workstation's based on individual configurations

SmartKDS Infrastructure Overview 

  • There are multiple programs that must be configured & run to operate SmartKDS
  • Below is an overview of how these programs are connected and the flow of data between them
  • There are also potential failure points been highlighted - it's important to understand where these are to ensure an efficient and stable system


SmartKDS Server Configuration

  • SmartKDS setup starts with configuring the KDS server and creating a new database for KDS
  • Themes can be created which would be used at different workstations
    • Themes can be created with two different types of layouts
  • New Printer Formats are created for SmartKDS and are configured at KDS Server

KDSLink Setup

  • To make the connection between SmartPOS and KDS Server, KDSLink setup must be completed
    • KDSLink is configured by providing the server details 

BackOffice Setup

  • A new Printer Format needs to be configured for SmartKDS which will be configured in KDS Server and used to print the receipts for the orders received
