This article covers the requirements for settings up a BackOffice Device to interface to SMS Global.
SMS Global is an SMS business text messaging service provider offering a "state-of-the-art SMS gateway, group bulk SMS, and email to SMS platform".
Prerequisites
To begin the implementation process, the Implementation Operator must have the following privileges enabled:
- Ability to use BackOffice
- Access to & maintenance of Venue, Stores & Tills
SMS Global - SMS Link Device
- This device will provide a link for the organisation to SMS Global so that messages can be sent to customers via BackOffice.
- Prior to setting up the BackOffice Device, an account must be created for the customer with SMS Global
- Please see the image and setup notes below for instructions:
SMS Link Setup Instructions
- After adding a new Device to the Server Workstation, enter a Device Name and then set it as follows:
- Device Type: SMS Link
- External DLL Name: Stdlibrary.Dll
- Class Name: SMS Global
- Set the Job Options as follows:
- Username: Enter the customer's username for the SMS Global account
- Password: Enter the customer's password for the SMS Global account
- From PhoneNum: Enter the Phone Number that will appear as the Sending Number; this must be approved by SMS Global for the customer's account
- Country Code: Enter the 2-digit ISO International Country Code that will be used to calculate available credits; e.g., Australia = AU
- Create Audit at Credit: Optionally, set a Credit Amount here to monitor the account's available Credits and create an Audit in the system when it reaches the number of Credits entered
- Click 'Check Settings' and then OK to save the Job
Venue Messaging Setup
- After creating and saving the SMS Link Device, it must be set per Venue in the 'Messaging Device Setup' section of the 'Messaging and Billing' tab:
- SMS Messages can now be sent from BackOffice via Messaging -> Message Accounts
- Ensure that the 'Message Type' is set to 'SMS'
- Alternatively, messages can also be sent via Account Maintenance -> 'Send Message' button
Sending a Test Message
Optionally, send a test SMS message by completing the following steps:
- Head to the Tools menu (top, left in BackOffice) and turn on 'Support Enable Send 1 Message'
- Go to the Messaging component and select 'Message Accounts'
- It's recommended to choose 'Manual Selection'
- Select an Account (this should be an internal Account as it will be used for sending a Test message)
- From the Message Type drop-down, select 'SMS'
- Enter test text into the body of the message
- Click 'Send' from the messaging toolbar
- A prompt will appear with several options; select 'Send Test'
- It's recommended to choose 'Manual Selection'
